In March 2026, students from the Faculty of Geography at the University of Belgrade participating in pedagogy and teaching methodology courses took part in an intensive two-day educational workshop organized by CEP. The training aimed to enhance future educators' skills in teaching sensitive historical topics and remembrance culture using cross-curricular approaches.
During the first session, participants explored the concept of collective memory and the pedagogical value of individual narratives, focusing on the Holocaust and Jewish heritage in Serbia. Utilizing Centropa’s archival materials—specifically the MemoryLanes application and biographies of Jewish women—students analyzed the life stories of Vera Amar and Matilda Kalef to select content and images for visual poster displays.
In subsequent group sessions, participants collaborated across disciplines to translate these personal narratives into concrete lesson plans integrating history, geography, philosophy, and English language studies. The workshop concluded with participants finalizing their lesson plans and exhibition posters, equipping future teachers with practical tools to foster critical thinking, historical empathy, and remembrance culture in Serbian classrooms.
